SPEEDLAP STEEL SOFFIT FAQ
Get answers to common questions about SpeedLap steel soffit, steel soffit panels, ventilation, installation, fascia, materials, and project planning.
A steel soffit is a painted metal panel that finishes the underside of a roof overhang. It closes off the eave, protects the rafter tails and sheathing from weather and pests, and, when vented, lets outside air into the attic. Steel soffit is normally paired with metal roofing, siding, and fascia so the exterior uses coordinated components.
SpeedLap is a 16-inch steel soffit panel from CoilSpot. It is roll-formed from 29-gauge, Grade 80 steel, cut to order, and available in Full Vent, Center Vent, and Solid profiles with smooth, crinkle, and wood grain finishes. SpeedLap is built to go up fast — CoilSpot designed it to cut soffit installation time in half.
SpeedLap is available in smooth, crinkle, and wood grain finishes. Smooth is the standard painted finish, crinkle is a textured low-gloss finish that hides minor imperfections, and wood grain gives the look of a wood soffit with the durability of steel. Choose SpeedLap Full Vent where the eaves are the main air intake for an attic and you need maximum airflow. Choose Center Vent where you want intake with a more solid look. Choose Solid where the overhang is not over ventilated attic space gable-end overhangs and many porch ceilings. Most projects mix vented and solid panels on the same building.
